The Clay Way is a year long online program for people working in ceramics who want to think more deeply about what they are making. You will be introduced to critical discourse around the medium and supported as you develop your own riyaz process and research methodology. The approach is to address one’s practice with both compassion and criticality, making intellect and intuition an integral part of the physical experience of making.
The course is intended to be an incubation space – a space for intimate material engagement, a space to reflect on your studio practice and the context in which you create, a space for intensive study, a space to take risks and leaps of faith.
The program is customised to each participant. We will have one-on-one tutorials and I aim to meet you where you are in your practice. I will be sounding board and provocateur.
The Clay Way is not designed for absolute beginners. It is for someone who has been working with ceramics for a while and who wants to explore conceptual practice in ceramics or think about their existing work in an expansive way.
It is also not meant to be a technically rigorous program. Your facility with the material will develop as you immerse yourself in a daily riyaz schedule – as you begin to embrace your thinking fingers and doing/making/playing brain.
Learning will also happen through participation in the following group sessions.
